What’s a “creator?”

An entrepreneur who is starting a new business -- that’s a creator.

A photographer shooting wedding photos on the weekend -- that’s a creator.

A parent working full-time to build wealth for their children -- that’s a creator.

 

My mission, and the mission of James Legal, is to help these creators (and others like them) protect the fruits of their labor. And I accomplish this in a few ways, depending on the nature of the creation.

 

For the entrepreneur, we start at my Small Business practice. I even provide subscription-based in-house counsel services, which are perfect for growing businesses that are conscious of legal matters but also trying to protect the bottom line. I also offer Trademark and Other Intellectual Property services, so you can protect your brand, protect your trade secrets, and potentially generate new business via licensing your IP.

 

For the photographer -- who may also find value in my Small Business practice -- I offer my Intellectual Property practice. For any artist, the value of registering your work with the U.S. Copyright Office cannot be overstated. And with the prevalence of illicit copying and sharing of artistic works online, a well-crafted Cease & Desist letter or a DMCA Takedown Notice can stop your work from being wrongfully exploited by others.

 

Finally, for the hard-working parent spending a lifetime creating wealth for her loved ones, we have my limited Estate Planning practice. Wills, Revocable Living Trusts, Living Wills, Powers of Attorney, etc. -- all serve to protect the wealth you create during your life and ensure that it gets distributed the way you intend.

I come from a long line of creators. The entrepreneurial and artistic spirits are found on both sides of my family tree. I grew up in a family business, and went on to own multiple small businesses, myself. My motivation to help other creators is practically a birthright.
